Don't Let Perfect Be The Enemy of Good
I really didn't think I would be writing a blog, but my daughter and her fiancé convinced me otherwise. I am always reading scientific health journals and with my journalism background, it would be a nice way to share what I've learned.
The title of this blog is something I say to my yoga students all the time. We live in a world where we are bombarded with images of perfection — perfect bodies, perfect meals, perfect yoga poses. And it can be paralyzing.
I have students who won't come to class because they feel like they aren't flexible enough, or fit enough, or experienced enough. They are waiting until they are "ready." But here's the thing — you will never be perfectly ready. And that's okay.
The same goes for nutrition. I talk to people every day who want to eat better but feel overwhelmed by all the conflicting information out there. Keto, paleo, vegan, intermittent fasting — it's a lot. And so they do nothing, waiting for the perfect plan.
But doing something — anything — is better than doing nothing. Going for a 10-minute walk is better than not walking at all. Eating one more vegetable today is better than waiting until you have the perfect meal plan.
Progress, not perfection. That is the goal. Show up on your mat even when you don't feel like it. Make one better food choice today. Drink one more glass of water. These small, imperfect steps add up to real, lasting change.
So whatever it is you've been putting off because you're waiting to be ready — start today. Imperfectly. Messily. Just start.
